Third Drawer Down presents Light Switch, a work by David Shrigley, during the Glow Winter Arts Festival.
As the sun goes down, the light switch comes on in Third Drawer Down’s Greville street window. Visitors can see the Glasgow artist’s work on display throughout the evening of the 21st-22nd of August.
Third Drawer Down Studio has worked with David Shrigley since early 2012, creating collections with the artist that range from duvet covers to domino sets. Shrigley’s work was also most recently shown as a major exhibition at the NGV in the summer of 2014.
Third Drawer Down Studio collaborated with the museum and Shrigley to curate and create the General Store during the exhibition, with over 30 new products on sale and display. Life and Drawing was Shrigley’s first major survey in Australia and his cult-like following has developed over the years due to his darkly humorous deliberately crude drawings that delve deep into the banality and absurdity of everyday life and human neurosis.
Drawing can be the most intimate of exchanges physically – the scratching of a pen on paper, the scale of the notebook, erasing and building an image. But it also acts as a cathartic action. Maybe not just for the artist but for the viewer as well. So in Shrigley’s work he’s also releasing something for everybody – tell us when we are not longer needed and we’ll go.
David Shrigley’s current collection with Third Drawer Down Studio can be purchased in Third Drawer Down stores or online.
