GLOW # 3 brings together contemporary artists utilising light as medium to MARS Gallery. Featuring works by Giles Ryder, Kristin McIver, Aly Indermühle, Balthasar Indermühle and Aaron Robinson, the exhibition presents a varied overview of abstract, stylistic and conceptual explorations of light and form.

To correspond with the Glow Winter Arts Festival, ‘Built Space’, an exhibition of new works by Jason Sims will open on 3 August. Sims is a contemporary artist working in the realm of perceptual art, primarily using mirror, reflective glass and lighting. Sims produces single and multiple piece wall works, freestanding sculptures and large-scale installations which facilitate a visceral experience for the viewer, a kind of tug of war between instinct and intellect whereby intellect surrenders, at least for a moment.

Mars Tracker

Dr. Balthasar Indermühle, an experimental astrophysicist now working with the CSIRO has collaborated with his wife and light artist Aly Indermühle to produce a sculptural laser light work which will (literally) point to MARS in the night sky.

The sculptural work uses visible laser light to point at Mars when it is visible in the night sky, tracking its motion across the sky the work, has been unveiled in time for the Glow Winter Arts Festival, positioned ironically on the roof of a new media sculpture park.

The Cabinet of Wonders by Nicholas Jones

Kinross Arts Centre features an exhibition by Nicholas Jones. Nicholas is a Melbourne cultural identity whose art is derived from re-interpreting and re-modelling traditional hard-cover books. New work is created when the artist folds, carves, cuts, tears, sews and sculpts books in order to communicate new ideas to the audience. His work is finely crafted and wondrous in terms of its transformation from static book to artwork with layers of meaning and fascinating new messages for the ‘reader’.

Alice in Yarnderland: A Crowdsourced Textile Installation Call for Submissions

In the lead-up to the Glow Winter Arts Festival, join fellow yarn enthusiasts as they create small textile projects to contribute to an installation outside Toorak/South Yarra Library. From absolute beginners to expert knitters, we invite everyone to join in on this collaborative artwork. The project will culminate in A Mad Tea-Party on Saturday 12 August from 4pm to collect and install the installation.
